Monday/Polk Check Division (Winter 2018)

Highlights Monday Polk-Check Div 2019 Fall Session September 16th:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Hawks…the odds at Vegas were 100% that the Hawks were playing their first ever double header. How would they do? First up was a stiff test vs the Dekes. The Tweet pic of the night (see top right for Twitter Slider to view) shows the Dekes scoring and they did often because of their superior passing game. The Hawks did everything else right…they just need to adjust to covering the passing game and play the same ball control/passing game. It is a great way to play! Dekes fo Hazzard win 13-2.

Hawks vs Yellow Arrows…the 2nd of two for the Hawks as they were up against one of the more fit teams in the OBBHA. The Arrows will run for 3 full periods regardless of the score. The Hawks held leads for most of the game and defended well as seen in the Instagram pic of the night (see top right for Instagram Slider to view). The Arrows pulled their goalie down 4-3 and tie it all up with one minute remaining in the match. 4-4 tie.

Aquamen vs Wild Dawgs…another look at the Aquamen who are still looking to gather up some chemistry. The Dawgs already have that asset to that was predicted to be a difference maker. It was. Wild Dawgs win 12-5.

Tsunamis vs Polk’s Heroes…the Heroes were once again missing some key players early in the season, but had a new addition to help. The defending champs were looking to get an early lead to dissuade any thoughts of confidence for the plucky Heroes. This was the game of the night!! The Heroes have come depth on offence now and were going step by step with the number one ranked team. They were up 5-3 late and the Wave had to dig deep to tie. Wonderful game to end the night and everyone left the French Palace smiling albeit quite tired from a great run! 5-5 tie.

Opening Night Highlights for Monday Polk-Check Division 2019 Fall Session September 9th:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Aquamen…the water guys are one of two brand new teams we welcome to Monday nights. The Dekes are a nice test for them as their passing game was predicted to teach some valuable lessons to the newbies. A few Aquamen were missing in the water and their goalie was getting a baptism by Dekes fire and heat as Jason Hein made his debut. The Dekes liked what they saw in this new team but made sure they got the important two points. Dekes of Hazzard win 7-3.

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard….the Dekes were first up on the schedule for the double headers that will be played throughout the regular season. The old Dawgs were happy to play a tired team lol. Also the Dawgs welcomed back former and now their #1 goalie Martin Myre who is featured in tonight’s Instagram photo of the night (see top right for Instagram Slider to view). He played well but the Dekes eked out a one goal victory…as these two teams always play tight games. Dekes of Hazzard win both their double header games and this won was 7-6.

Tsunamis vs Yellow Arrows…the defending champs were up against the Yellow Arrows who are moving over from the Wonderful Wednesday division. So a brand new look for the Arrows to see and play. A great test vs the top ranked team for the moment. A very well played game. It was close until the end when the Wave scored a few insurance markers. The Arrow welcomed a new goalie Mark Nowostawski to the team and he played well. Tsunamis have a new #1 goalie Dave Holt and he played extremely well and is feature in the Twitter pic of the night (see top right for Twitter Slider to view). Tsunamis win 7-3

Polk’s Heroes vs Hawks…welcome Benny and his new team the Hawks. Benny has played in the OBBHA many years on many different nights so his leadership will be key for his friends from work to draw upon. The Heroes in the off season have acquired some much needed scoring we hear! The Heroes were missing a couple of those scores but played a great game. It was the new team the Hawks that came out of the gate in impressive fashion as they looked like a team that has played together forever! They had chemistry!! Can you say Vegas Golden Knights of two years ago?! Let’s see how they do next week as the Monday Div does that too teams…look good one night but then another team turns the tide the next week in this very evenly matched division. But at this point its all Congrats to the Hawks for their first franchise win! Hawks win 6-4.

Monday April 29 Final (note no 3rd Seed Play-off game as the Wild Hogs forfeited to the Dekes of Hazzard 5-0):

Great season everyone!! Enjoy the summer and see you back at in the Fall!!

7:30pm = Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis (Final)…yes a 10 year old rivalry in the Final to celebrate the OBBHA 10-year Anniversary! Nicely scripted one would say! And classic to boot!! The Wave jumped to quick 2-0 lead in the first period before a late tally from the Dawgs narrowed the lead to 2-1. The teams traded 3 goals each in the 2nd as the Wave retained the one goal advantage at 4-3 heading into the final period. The goalies took over from there. Great action and great saves from Andrew Gowing in the Dawgs net and Travis Guay in the Wave net. Finally the final whistle blew as the Dawgs nipped at the net for the equalizer to no avail. Congrats to both teams for a wonderful final. Tsunamis get there 4th championship in 10 years…congrats! Tsunamis win 4-3.

Monday Polk Check Division Champions: Tsunamis the Wave!

Monday April 15 Semi-Final Play-offs: (note no games Monday, April 22 for Easter Long Weekend… April 29)

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard (4vs1)…the Dawgs have had the Dekes number over the past decade and on this night it was true to form despite a spirited effort from the Dekes. The first was played 2-2 and the 3rd the Dekes won 2-1. But a 5-0 run by the Dawgs in the 2nd was the difference to power them into the Finals. Wild Dawgs win 8-4.

Wild Hogs vs Tsunamis (3vs2)…The Hogs were the favourites despite their 3rd Seed position. This game was awesome. The Wave were up 2-0 after one period, but in the middle the Hogs battled back to tie it all up 3-3 to set the stage for the exciting 3rd. Late in the game the Wave were up 5-3 but the Hogs scored two goals and at 5-5 OT loomed large. The Wave scores a late heart-breaking goal with just under 2-minutes remaining. The Hogs pulled the goalie and put on a massive pressure but Travis Guay in the Wave net made several huge saves to preserve the win and a spot in the Finals. Tsunamis win 6-5.

Monday April 8 Elimination Game Play-offs: (amazing games!)

1st Place Dekes of Hazzard get the bye into April 15 Semi-Finals

7pm = Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Hogs (6vs3)…this one had upset in the making from the opening goal by the Heroes. They played their best game of the season and after a 1-1 opening period the Heroes were up 4-1 after two periods. Both teams had their full compliment of players on the benches. The turning point came in the 3rd period….the Hogs goalie make 3 key saves and the Heroes missed an empty net in the first 6-minutes of the 3rd. Then the Hogs got some timely goals to tie it up 4-4. Late in the game the Hogs scored two more and the comeback was complete. Wild Hogs win 6-4.

8pm = Mighty Ducks vs Tsunamis (7vs2)….after last weeks tight game the teams played a closely played first period, but a couple of late goals in that period by the Wave game them a 4-2 lead they would never relinquish. The Wave slowly pulled away despite a keen effort from the Ducks. Tsunamis win 9-5.

9pm = Godsons vs Wild Dawgs (5vs4)…a wild one to end perfectly fun night! The Dawgs held 3-2 and 6-4 leads at the breaks. Early in the 3rd the Godsons surged to a 7-6 lead. Then the Wild Dawgs scored to take an 8-7 lead. With 3-minutes remaining in the game teh Godsons pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. Relentless pressure for the next 2:29 finally resulted in the tying goal with 31-seconds left. Then it was off the first 3 on 3 OT in OBBHA history. The Godsons missed an glorious opportunity 10-seconds into the extra period and the 44 seconds in the Dawgs poked in a rebound to advance to the semi-finals. Wild Dawgs win 9-8 in OT.

Hats off to a great season by the Polk’s Heroes, Mighty Ducks and Godsons. See you all back in the Fall for more fun!!

April 1 Highlights:

Three teams with double headers to set the standing for next week Elimination Play-Off Round!

Tsunamis vs Mighty Ducks…the Wave were up first for a double. This was a preview to next weeks 7vs2 elimination game. The Wave needed two wins tonight and some help to get 2nd place and a wild finish later in the night secured this reality. This game has everyone excited about next weeks meeting between these two. Tonight the Wave needed two late goals for a comeback squeaker win. Tsunamis win 6-5.

Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis…first of two for the Dawgs as the Tsunamis were looking for their second wave. The Wave once again were in a tight one and managed to hang on to sweep their double header into first place. Tsunamis win 7-5.

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…can you teach an old dawg a second trick? This was all Dawgs. Wild Dawgs win 14-3.

Godsons vs Wild Hogs…Hog wild for their first of two games. The Hogs needed two wins to secure first place. Somehow this first win was stolen from them. The OBBHA has seen some wild comebacks for ties or wins over its ten years and this one was right up there for the excitement and entertainment value. Fast forward a great game to 6-4 Hogs with just under two minutes stop time left. The Godsons pull the goalie for the extra attacker…the Hogs score into an empty net with 1:50 remaining to make it 7-4 and get the clock on running time (only 2 or less goal differential forced a stop time count). With just over a minute left the Godsons score to get the time back on stop time at 7-5. Then with 27 seconds left they make it 7-6. Still with the goalie pulled the Hogs just missed the empty net to salt it away and on the counter attack “Will The Thrill" of the Godsons ties it up with 3-seconds left to send the French Palace into a frenzy! Love this stuff!! 7-7 tie.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Hogs…the Dekes secured first place and bye from next weeks elimination frenzy. The Hogs were once again looking to keep the legs going in the bottom half of their double. A potential Final preview here. With the score 4-2 Hogs heading into the 3rd period after two well played periods, it was the Dekes who tired badly and the Hogs who had the extra legs to put an exclamation point on this win. Wild Hogs win 8-2.

March 25 Highlights:

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Hogs…first of two toughies for the Heroes. The Heroes were short and the Hogs were not. Wild Hogs win 10-2.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Polk’s Heroes…the first place Dekes looked to lock up first place and the all important bye for the elimination game in two weeks. The Heroes were given a shot in the arm after their opening night loss with the attendance of no other than Polk himself! To bad another “key" player was not their or this could have been a different result. The Heroes had more offence and played right through to the end, but the Dekes are in first for a reason. Dekes of Hazzard win 12-7.

Tsunamis vs Godson’s Part II…a great looking match on paper. The Godsons looked in control up 4-1 heading into the 3rd, but the Wave had a huge 3rd period comeback for a big win. Tsunamis win 7-5.

Wild Dawgs vs Mighty Ducks…the Ducks looked to continue their fine play while the Dawgs wanted to find consistency in their game. This was two games in one and showed the first sentence held all the meaning. By the mid-way point of the game the Dawgs were up 5-1 and on their game. Then the Ducks turned the tables and came on strong scoring two late in the 2nd period and added two more in the 3rd for an exciting comeback tie. 5-5 tie.

March 4 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard….Tsunamis 10 year captain “Robbie" was given his Hoodie and and a taste of the light show that signatures some OBBHA games in one form or another. The Wave were up 4-2 after one, but much to the chagrin of their goalie Travis a 6-5 wave lead after two periods completely evaporated in the 3rd as the Dekes scored 4 unanswered goals for a big win to almost solidify first place for the Dekes of Hazzard who win 9-6.

Mighty Ducks vs Godsons Part II….how about those Ducks! They stun the French Palace crowd last week with a come from behind tie with the top team the Dekes of Hazzard, then edge out the Godsons by one goal on this night. The game was 4-4 in the 3rd and then the Ducks shut the door down while team captain Pat Gleddie scored huge goals for the win. Mighty Ducks win 6-4.

Godsons Part II vs Polk’s Heroes…the Godsons were full value for having the full effort from a full bench in game #2 of their double header. Danika Gratton scored a big goal and with the game on the line the Godsons were able to hang on for a big one goal win. The Heroes were game to play and their effort produced on of the most entertaining games of the year. Godsons Part II win 9-8.

Wild Hogs vs Wild Dawgs….simply Wild! The Hogs were up 4-1 after one and up 5-1 at one point in the 2nd. But the Dawgs were only down 6-5 after two periods. In the final period with the Dawgs up 7-6 and poised for victory, the Hogs scored with 1:26 to tie up the game. A game worthy of a Final. This would be a great play-off match-up!! 7-7 tie.

February 25 Highlights:

Mighty Ducks vs Dekes of Hazzard….the Ducks were up 3-1 after one period. But the Dekes had a great rebound period in the 2nd for a 5-3 lead and then were up 8-5 late in the 3rd. The Ducks were Mighty on the comeback and surprised the Dekes by scoring 3 to tie it and almost won it! 8-8 tie.

Wild Hogs vs Mighty Ducks…the Ducks gave the Hogs a game but their 2nd game of the double header gave them a tired bench in the 3rd and another comeback bid was too exhausting for them. Wild Hogs win 11-7.

Polk’s Heroes vs Tsunamis…the Wave came out with a tidal wave of a first period at 7-1 and never looked back. Tsunamis win 13-6.

Wild Dawgs vs Godsons Part II…the Godsons were up 5-4 after two periods and then ran away with it in the 3rd based on a very good team play system. Godsons Part II win 9-5.

Remember no games February 18 as we enjoy Family Day Weekend…see you back for action on February 25

February 11 Highlights:

Godsons Part II vs Dekes of Hazzard…the Godsons were very much looking forward on improving the scoreline from the last time the two teams met. The Godsons have improved and played far better since that opening match. And they came through with a full bench and a full effort. The Dekes had to give it their all to win this one, which would ultimately hurt them in their 2nd game of the night as you will see. Dekes of Hazzard win 6-3.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Dawgs…a very tough draw for the Dekes to get the Dawgs in the bottom half of their twin bill. The Dawgs had the legs even though the Dekes had their chances and made sure to give that little bit extra as often as possible. It was only 3-2 Dawgs going into the 3rd but the Dekes ran out of gas at this point. The Dekes lose their bid to become the first 13-0-0 team in the history of the OBBHA’s ten years. Wild Dawgs win 8-3.

Wild Hogs vs Tsunamis…the Hogs were eager to show their double header success was not fluke. The Wave would be on lifeguard duty for this one as they knew this would be a stiff test. Consider the Hogs a contender now! They showed a very impressive team game and a penchant to take the OBBHA product for what it is. Clean and fun. They held steady in the first period at 1-1 vs the veteran Wave group, then took over the 2nd for a 5-1 lead. In the 3rd the Wave came on strong but gave up a late empty netter once they were down by two. Wild Hogs win 7-4.

Mighty Ducks vs Polk’s Heroes…the nightcap was a very popular match-up. And very tough to predict. So a lot of fun was the prediction! A very close game that could gave gone either way once again. The Heroes had the lead 5-3 after two and gave up a a goal in the 3rd, but hung on for a big win. Pat Gleddie finally scored for his Ducks and looks to break out of his Winter slump asap! Polk’s Heroes win 5-4.

February 4 Highlights! Double Header frenzy as 3 teams test their endurance tonight!!

Mighty Ducks vs Tsunamis…the Wave were up first. Did they have two waves in them on this night? They certainly had the first wave as they had to play well as the Ducks came out with some fine play making and some offensive thrusts. But the Wave had the snipers working. Tsunamis win 10-4.

Tsunamis vs Wild Dawgs…The Dawgs were next for the double. Did they have a bark and a bite? There was no 2nd wave. The Dawgs were up 3-2 and 6-4 at the breaks before finally outlasting the Waves valiant efforts. Wild Dawgs win 8-4.

Wild Dawgs vs Polk’s Heroes…The Dawgs were keen to get back to 500 hockey with a double header sweep. An they did it in dominating style as the Heroes were missing their main Hero who was MIA? Oh to have notice! Wild Dawgs win 9-3.

Wild Hogs vs Dekes of Hazzard…the Hogs were the final team for two tonight. Could they hog the wins? It must be said the Wild Hogs looked quite impressive on this night. First in this game they have the Dekes all they could handle. After a 3-3 opening period, the Dekes were up 5-4 and scored the only goal of the 3rd in a excellent game. The passing on both sides was quite impressive. The Dekes had Dan on his game in their net and that was a big difference. Dekes of Hazzard win 6-4.

Wild Hogs vs Godsons Part II… the Wild Hogs were simply the better team in their 2nd game. The Godsons played well but the Hogs surprised everyone with their impressive team game. Goaltending was solid on the Hogs side and this helped immensely…but the Hogs deserved this win from start to finish. Wild Hogs win 10-5.

January 28 Highlights!

Wild Hogs vs Polk’s Heroes…the Hogs get the Heroes fresh as it was their first of two on the night. The Heroes welcome a guest appearance from an old goalie Markus Esnard. He was a key factor keeping his Heroes up 5-3 and 8-4 at the breaks. In the 3rd the Hogs staged a surge but it came up short. Polk’s Heroes win 10-7.

Polk’s Heroes vs Dekes of Hazzard….for their 2nd match of the night for the Heroes it was a touch draw vs the top ranked Dekes. They played very well as the Dekes had to give it there all to get the two points. Dekes of Hazzard win 8-5.

Godsons Part II vs Tsunamis…the Godsons faced yet another test to see how they would fair vs a strong opponent in the Wave. A very low scoring game. 2-0 and 3-1 for the Wave at the period breaks. The difference in the end were two amazing saves that were amazingly identical saves by the Waves goalie Travis Guay who robbed the Godsons main threat on offence Mike Fuller. The saves were outstretched glove saves that had everyone roaring in cheer or agony! Tsunamis win 5-2.

Mighty Ducks vs Wild Dawgs…the Dawgs turned to Nathalie Girouard to settle things down in the net so they could concentrate on their game. The Dawgs were on their game in the first up 3-0. But the Mighty Ducks came on strong in the 2nd as the Dawgs needed two late 2nd period goals to be up 5-4 heading into the 3rd. The Dawgs pulled away late in the game for the win. Wild Dawgs win 8-4.

January 21 Highlights!

Wild Dawgs vs Wild Hogs…a “wild" game was expected. And well it was. Alex Montminy made his “forced" debut in the nets and he made some mighty wild saves. The Hogs had “Big Cole M" in the nets and he made sure he made the key saves to keep the confidence of his team up. The Hogs were up 5-1 early and 8-2 after two before Al Jolivet of the Godsons came in for relief for the 3rd to free up Alex M to play some D and create more offence for the Dawgs. It was too little too late however. Wild Hogs win 10-5.

Godsons vs Mighty Ducks…first of the double for the Godsons Part II. A great game! 1-1 after one period and the Godsons were up 4-3 after two periods. The Godsons had just enough offence and Martin Weaver in the net made some big saves for huge win. Godsons Part II win 6-4.

Polk’s Heroes vs Godsons Part II…really the Part II for the Godsons. Polk’s Heroes came on strong and the Godsons were on their heals at times. The Heroes were up 3-2 and 5-2 at the breaks as the Godsons gave it their all in their 2nd run of the night. The Heroes played their best game in quite some time for 3 full periods to ensure a tight win. Polk’s Heroes win 7-5.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Tsunamis….the age old rivalry to send us all out into the frigid night! The 1st period won 3-2 by the Dekes and the 3rd period won 1-0 by the Wave were what everyone was expecting…a tightly played game. But it was the 2nd period where the Dekes were simply passing with dominance that was the difference…they won the period 7-2. Dekes of Hazzard win 10-5.

January 14 Highlights:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Mighty Ducks…after an opening night win the Ducks faced a stiff test to begin their double header night! The Dekes continued to pass masterfully and the Ducks were taking notes on how to play the OBBHA game at its finest. Dekes of Hazzard win 12-3.

Mighty Ducks vs Wild Hogs…first franchise win in the OBBHA for the Wild Hogs. Congrats! They moved the ball well and were full value for the win. The Ducks played better in the bottom half of their double header. It was duly noted the Ducks were missing two key ingredients on offence on this night of two games. Wild Hogs win 9-4.

Godsons Part II vs Wild Dawgs…game of the night. Well played and it could have gone either way. The game was tied 3-3 after one and the Godsons were up 5-3 after two. The Dawgs scored the only goal of the 3rd, but could not get that last goal to tie it. Godsons Part II win 5-4

Tsunmis vs Polk’s Heroes…the Heroes were missing their goalie due to injury so Shawn Pilon came in and played amazing. The Wave were up 4-3 after two periods and then finally pulled away as the Heroes ran out of gas. Tsunamis win 8-3.

Opening Night for 2019!!

January 7 Highlights!

Dekes of Hazzard vs Godsons Part II…welcome back Dekes for your daily double!! And the Godsons Part II make their Monday night debut (a veteran Sunday league club). This was all Dekes as they looked impressive from the start. The Godsons will adjust as they always do, but they were missing a couple of offensive players so this was not a fair representation of what to expect from them. Dekes of Hazzard win 11-3.

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard…a rematch of the just completed Championship game in December for the Fall session which went to a shoot-out and the Dawgs prevailed. So both teams were eager to have some more fun even as the Dekes were feeling the Xmas excesses! The Dekes were quick out of the gate as they were warmed up. But they certainly kept up the pace as they had the Dawgs tongues hanging out. Dekes of Hazzard win 14-7.

Tsunamis vs Wild Hogs…the oldest running OBBHA team vs the new team to the OBBHA. The Wave were interested in seeing the Hogs play. The Hogs did not look out of place. A very tight well played first left the Wave up 1-0. In the 2nd at 1-1 the Wave scored 3 key goals late in the period for a 4-1 lead. In the 3rd it was 6-2, but the Hogs came on strong and closed to 6-4 and were unlucky not to get closer. Great goaltending on both sides from Cole MacMillan in the Wild Hogs net and Travis Guay. Tsunamis win 6-4.

Polk’s Heroes vs Mighty Ducks…the night cap was a toss up as nobody could ever predict the outcome last session when these two clubs met. A quick striking Ducks squad in the first period as the roared out to a 4-0 lead. After that it was very even as the second was 1-1 and the Heroes outscored the Ducks by one 3-2. Both teams have some new additions that looked good. The Heroes have a new goalie Jim Phillipps and he is the real deal. Mighty Ducks win 7-4.

A great Fall session. Parity was the best part! More teams joining for the Winter session!! See everyone Monday, January 7.

Tuesday, December 11 Finals:

7pm (Finals)) Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazard…two long time teams in the OBBHA meet up in an appropriate Final. And the two top finishers this session as well. So a well played game was expected. And it was! The Dekes came out the better team as they owned ball poseesion and their passing was bang on. Portelance in the Dawgs net kept the deficits at 3-2 and 5-3 at the period breaks. In the 3rd the Dawgs roared back to take a 6-5 lead. The Dekes tied it up late 6-6. So for the 3rd time in 3 different OBBHA Divisions on 3 different nights the Dekes were involved in yet another shoot-out! The Dawgs have a long history of winning and losing championships over 10 years in the OBBHA! So it was not surprising and very appropriate that the scheduled 5 rounder went 7 rounds! The Dawgs eked this one out to win again, but it has been awhile! Congrats to both teams for a very fun and entertaining Final. Wild Dawgs win 7-6 in a shoot-out.

Congrats to the Fall 2018 Session Champion Wild Dawgs:

Monday, December 10 Semi-finals:

7pm (semi-final 3 vs 2) Tsunamis vs Wild Dawgs…great match!. The Dawgs were up 3-2 and 6-5 at the breaks. They kept getting leads and then the Wave were resilient and kept coming back within one goal. In the 3rd the Dawgs pulled away about midway through that final period to punch their ticket into the Finals! Wild Dawgs win 9-6.

8pm (semi-final 4 vs 1)) Polk’s Heroes vs Dekes of Hazzard…the Heroes scored goals, but the problem was that the Dekes were on fire on offence all night long. From opening whistle the Dekes were up 3-0 quickly. In the 2nd the Heroes rallied quickly and were down 4-3, but then the Dekes racked up 5 straight for a 9-3 lead. The teams tied the third 5-5. The Dekes are off to the Finals! Dekes of Hazzard win 14-8

Highlights of the 5vs4 Elimination Game Monday, December 3rd:

Polk’s Heroes vs Mighty Ducks…The Heroes scored two quick goals on the first shift but the Ducks answered back late in the first period to leave 2-1 Heroes. The game was lively in the 2nd and it ended 4-4. It looked like OT was in the works as both teams were even and trading chances. Finally in the 3rd the Heroes cashed in on some nice work to gain a lead that the Ducks could not overcome. Congrats to the Mighty Ducks for a great season and see you back on January 7th. The Heroes are off to next Monday’s semi-final game vs the Dekes of Hazzard. Polk’s Heroes win 9-5.

November 26 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…a very good game. The Dekes had the passing game down a little better than the Wave and this was the difference a the Dekes limited the Wave’s offence to outside shots for the most part. This was a battle for first place overall and the right to play the winner of next weeks elimination game between the Polk’s Heroes and Mighty Ducks in the semifinals in two weeks. Dekes of Hazzard win 6-2.

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…an other double header for the Heroes for the 2nd week in a row due to the Election Night make-up game. The Heroes were always just with in striking reach but just could not tie up as they were down 7-6 late and the Dawgs got the empty netter. The win gives the Dawgs 2nd place and home advantage for their semi-final in two weeks with Tsunamis. Wild Dawgs win 8-6.

Polk’s Heroes vs Mighty Ducks…the Heroes had trouble getting the offence going and when they did Al Jolivet was almost perfect in the Ducks net. This was the best all round game for the Ducks ever. And this was the preview for next Monday’s sudden death elimination game between the two. Mighty Ducks win 4-1.

November 19 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Mighty Ducks…quite a goalie battle for this match as Al Jolivet was only beaten twice on beauty plays and Travis Guay was perfect in the Wave net. Both teams played a very tight structured match, but there were chances and break-down at times, but the goalie masked those mistakes for the low scoring game. Tsunamis win 2-0.

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…the Heroes bench was just too short vs the full dog house of Dawgs. Wild Dawgs win 11-3.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Polk’s Heroes…game of the night! The Heroes in game two of the night for them received some bench strength from some old OBBHA friends and they made this game so much fun as they passed just as well as the Dekes who have patent on passing these days on all three renditions of the Dekes of Hazzard (Sun, Mon, Wed). This game was close throughout and finally with the Dekes of up a goal, the Heroes pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and did everything but score to tie it up. Highlight of the night was show me the ball save by Markus Ensnard on Jared Danic. Fun times! Dekes of Hazzard win 6-5.

Everyone received a sample of Head & Shoulders Old Spice Pure Sport anti-dandruff shampoo which helps get rid of dandruff and does so with a manly Old Spice scent.

If you have Struts take a photo of you and some or all of your team with one sample only for submission to Head and Shoulders….you could win $300 for a team party at Ralph’s!

(staged or funny will give you a better chance of winning we are told…so for example one player (or all) with shampoo in his hair might do the trick!)

As Doug Gilmour said back in 1994 “you can’t hide under the helmet all the time"

Play clean!

John and Jason at the OBBHA

November 12 Highlights:

Mighty Ducks vs Polk’s Heroes…the Ducks win! the Ducks win! They were head and shoulders above their best performance ever! The Heroes were game but the altitude was a little higher for the Ducks…not to split-ends here. The parting of the hairs came early early as the Ducks were up 4-1 after one and never looked back. Congrats boys! Mighty Ducks win 8-4.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Dawgs…the Dekes were on for two games tonight. And they were simply on! They came out passing so well that they dominated this game and the next. Dekes of Hazzard win 10-2

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…ditto for the Dekes in this one as they romped despite the opponent actually playing well. From the net out the Dekes were quite impressive. Dekes of Hazzard win 9-3.

November 5 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Polk’s Heroes…a surprising score for the type of game it was. Travis Guay was a big difference maker in the Wave net. Tsunamis win 7-2.

Mighty Ducks vs Dekes of Hazzard…a great game. Very evenly played as well. The Ducks are improving with each game out. Al Jolivet in the Ducks net made 3 spectacular glove saves in this fun match. 6-6 tie.

Mighty Ducks vs Wild Dawgs…the Ducks in game two of there double header jumped out to a quick 3-0 first period lead. The Dawgs scored all 3 goals in the 2nd for a 3-3 tie. Could the Ducks keep up their impressive play? The did but tired and the Dawgs had just enough offence to pull off the complete comeback win. Wild Dawgs win 8-4.

October 29 Highlights:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Polk’s Heroes…a wild one. Dekes were up 3-2 after one butwere  tied 5-5 after 2 periods. In the 3rd with the Dekes up 8-7 the Heroes pulled their goalie and were all over the net trying to tie it up but somehow they could not get it across the line to tie. Dekes of Hazzard win 8-7.

Tsunamis v MIghty Ducks…first of two for the Wave. The Wave wore their ocean blue shirts….snazzy! Martin Weaver played his first OBBHA game in the Ducks net as a spare and he was awesome! 4-4 after two periods and then nothing until with 1:23 left the Wave went up 5-4 only to have the Ducks tie it all up with :50 second remaining. 5-5 tie.

Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis…a classic battle as always when these original teams from 10 years ago meet up. These two have met more times than any other two teams in the history of the OBBHA. So another tight score and game was predicted. 2-2 after one period. A wave of goals in the 2nd and Tsunamis scored 7 of them for a 9-6 lead. But in the 3rd the tide went out and goals were sparse. The Dawgs closed to 9-7 and kept the pressure on the tiring Wave in their bottom half of their double header. Then 9-8 with under 5-minutes left to make this the 3rd compelling match of the night! The Dawgs then tied it up with 2:30 left and took the lead with 1:23 remaining….then an empty netter seemingly put it away, but the Wave scored with 4 seconds left to make it a one goal game. Wild Dawgs win 11-10.

Remember no games Oct 22…see you on Oct 29th!

October 15 Highlights:

Polk’s Heroes vs Tsunamis…Heroes unveiled their new goalie Markus Esnard who is replacing the ever popular Terry Cleroux who is recovering from knee surgery that went well. This turned into an excellent goalie battle as Trevor Guay in The Wave net and Markus went toe to toe for this one. 2-0 Heroes after one and 2-2 after two. Deep into the 3rd a mini tornado of chances finally resulted in Wave goal for the tight win. Tsunamis win 3-2.

Wild Dawgs vs Mighty Ducks…the Dawgs in their first of two needed to conserve energy yet still work hard for a potential win. The first and 3rd period were played virtually even, but the 2nd the Dawgs exploded for  huge 9-3 lead and that was the difference. Wild Dawgs win 10-4.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Dawgs…the Dekes wanted to come out strong and wear down the Dawgs. The Dawgs were warm and ready to go so it would be interesting to see how all this would play out! It was very tight at 4-4 heading into the final period. It was well played and then wild late as the teams traded huge goals. The Dawgs tilted the floor in the final moments as they pressed for a tie and got it with 16 seconds left. 7-7 tie.

October 1 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Wild Dawgs…nine was the number for the night. Cat of nine tails. Nine Waves came ashore for Tsunamis as they outlasted the Dawgs in every period. Tsunamis win 9-5.

Polk’s Heroes vs Dekes of Hazzard…first of two for the Dekes and they repeated their feat in the second game as well. Nine was the magic number as they had the offence passing strategy down pat to keep the Heroes off their game. All Dekes in this one. Dekes of Hazzard win 9-3.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Mighty Ducks…same final score for the Dekes in the bottom half of their double header but this one was much harder for them as the game was mighty close for two periods. The Ducks we up 3-2 after one and then a 3-0 2nd for the Dekes put them up 5-3. They continued to keep the door closed and added insurance goals to boot. Dekes of Hazzard win 9-3.

September 24 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…tornado or Pokemon were the themes for the Wave. Some new faces whirled in for this one including goalie Shawn Pilon who was quite frankly the difference in this game. The Dekes played well and deserved a fate but simply put were unlucky at both ends of the nets. A close 1st at 3-2 Wave but it stayed out of reach for the Dekes despite their full effort. Tsunamis win 10-6.

Wild Dawgs vs Mighty Ducks…an interesting game as both teams traded great chances early and often. The Ducks had a little defensive coverage trouble that cost them key goals. The Dawgs were hot on the goals they needed as the Ducks had a great offensive game going and Marty Myre had to on his game in the Dawg cage. Wild Dawgs win 10-7.

Mighty Ducks vs Polk’s Heroes…the Ducks in the back end of their double header held their first ever franchise lead and made it 2-0 before ending the 1st period with their first ever period lead 3-2. Then they held a 7-5 2nd break lead. Terry Cleroux playing in his last game before his knee surgery this Friday rallied the troops for a comeback tie. 8-8 tie.

September 17 Highlights:

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard…after a close first the Dawgs busted out in the 2nd for a big 8-3 lead. In the 3rd the Dekes closed to within a goal in the final minute but the Dawgs put it away. Wild Dawgs win 11-9.

Tsunamis vs Mighty Ducks…2-2 after the first period. The Wave score 3 unaswered in the 2nd and another 2 unanswered in the final period. Tsunamis win 7-2.

Polk’s Heroes vs Tsunamis…the Wave in the 2nd half of their double-header were down 2-1 after one period. The Heroes had some jump and the Wave had to dig down deep as they tired. The 2nd was sprited and ended knotted up 4-4. The game was for the taking in the 3rd at 6-6 late, but the Heroes potted two for the hard earned win. Polk’s Heroes win 8-6.

Opening Night Highlights for Fall Session September 10th…Our 10th Season Anniversary!!

Mighty Ducks vs Dekes of Hazzard…the Dekes were up 3-0 after the first period. The new team then found their range early in the 2nd to tie it up 3-3. However late in the 2nd the Dekes restored the 3 goal lead 6-3. The teams traded a pair of goals each in the final period as the Dekes were just a step ahead for most of the match based on their solid passing game. Dekes of Hazzard win 8-5.

Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis…Game one of the double header for for the Dawgs. The Wave were watching the weather network as hurricanes were the theme so they came out with gale force winds and leads of 3-1 and 5-3 at the breaks. The tide remained out as Wave rode the momentum despite the Dawgs strong strokes to mount the comeback. Tsunamis win 9-6.

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…the 2nd half of the Dawgs double header. A tight first period as the team focussed on team defence as the goalies Marty and Terry were on their games. The first ended 1-0 Dawgs. Then a short benched Heroes could not keep up with the veteran Dawgs even as they themselves powered through their 2nd game. The Dawgs ran wild for the last two periods. The Heroes broke Marty Myre’s shut-out bid with 2-minutes left in the game. Wild Dawgs win 10-1.

What a great season! See everyone back in the Fall for the 10th Season of the OBBHA!

April 30 Highlights:

Finals: Wild Dawgs vs Polk’s Heroes…The Dawgs were back in limelight after several years absence from a final after having been in so many before that in the Big Bad Blue Gym pun intended! They looked great up 2-1 after one period. But the distraction of knowing their number one goalie Marty was leaving early compounded by the captain going down with injury in the 2nd period…the Heroes slowly took advantage of tiring Dawgs crew with tongues hanging out. 6-4 heading into the 3rd and the Heroes closed the deal with a relentless effort. The Heroes full line-up gave it their all from start to finish and had the bench strength to use this to their full advantage. Congrats to Polks Heroes for the title win 8-5.

Polk’s Heroes Champions! (and Trevor Polk congrats the new winners!)

3rd Seed Match: Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…the fun run of the night but with full intensity! The Wave were up 2-1 after one but were down 4-3 heading into the 3rd as the Dekes found their offence. It took a little while but the Dekes finally put the pesky Wave away with an empty netter. Dekes of Hazzard party like its 1999 winning 8-6.

April 23 Highlights: Game #3 of the 3-game play-off round-robin to see who goes into the Finals and who plays in the 3rd seed Match:

Tsunamis vs Wild Dawgs….a semi-final for all intents and purposes! The Wave seemed to have everything in their own hands as they were up 3-1 and had Travis Guay making every stop look easy. Then a new deflections and some luck the Wild Dawgs had the game tied 4-4 after two periods with momentum. The Dawgs carried through and were up 6-4 before a late Wave goal made it 6-5. With the goalie pulled the Wave tried to tie it up but the Dawgs put in an empty netter for reach next weeks final. The Dekes will play for 3rd Seed. Wild Dawgs win 7-5.

Polk’s Heroes vs Dekes of Hazzard…the other semi-final just to keep things spicy! The Heroes came out flying and never landed. 4-1 and 8-3 leads followed by a never let up 3rd gave the Heroes a shot at the title next week. The Dekes will vie for 3rd Seed. Polk’s Heroes win 12-4.

April 16 Highlights: Game #2 of the 3-game play-off round-robin to see who goes into the Finals and who plays in the 3rd seed Match:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Dawgs…Dawgs needed the win to stay alive. The Dekes looked like they were going to run away with it up 5-1 after one. But the lead was too early as the lead was cut to 6-3 after two and then the Dawgs exploded for 7 straight in the 3rd to force a deciding game for themselves next week! The Dekes are now in the same position. Wild Dawgs win 10-6.

Polk’s Heroes vs Tsunamis…the Wave had to win also to stay alive. Heroes could afford the loss but would then be in a must win situation next week. The Wave built a small lead and were able to keep as their goalie “Travis Guay the Wall" used many glove saves along with others that left the Heroes shaking their heads and giving him shout-outs for his work! Tsunamis win 6-3.

April 9 Highlights: Game #1 of the 3-game play-off round-robin to see who goes into the Finals and who plays in the 3rd seed Match:

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…first of two very tightly played contests. It was 0-0 almost halfway through the game. The Heroes scored the first two of the game to be up 2-0, but the Dawgs tied up up 2-2. In the 3rd the Heroes went up another two but the Dawgs closed it to with in a goal. The Heroes hung on. Polk’s Heroes win 4-3

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…2-1 for the Wave after one and then 4-3 Dekes heading into the 3rd. In the Final period the Dekes made it 5-3 and then the Wave pulled the goalie and scored to make it a one goals and continued to press with the extra attacker but could not complete the comeback. Dekes of Hazzard win 5-4.

Polk Check Division March 26 Highlights:

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…game of the night!. 2-2, 4-4 and then a 4-4 3rd period. The last 2 minutes saw 4 goals and then with no time on the clock it was mano vs mano as a penalty shot was awarded to the Dawgs that Bill Carkner Jr. took vs his old friend Terry Cleroux who flashed the glove to preserve the tie! 8-8.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Tsunamis…another very close game but that the Wave seemed destined to win as they kept just a goal ahead as the Dekes hit some posts in their valiant efforts to keep pace. Tsunamis win 8-5.

Polk Check Division March 5 Highlights:

Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis…the Dawgs were up 3-2 after one and by the mid-point of the 2nd it was 7-2, but the Wave would not give up and by the end of the period it was 9-6 Wild Dawgs. Both teams exploded for 5 goals each in the 3rd. Wild Dawgs win 14-11.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Polk’s Heroes…Dan Bujolds had a season changing game in the nets last night in the Sunday league for the Dekes and carried his strong play into this one. With the Dekes up 4-3 in the 3rd and the game in doubt as the Heroes poured it on, he shut the door while the Dekes pulled away late with 3 goals. Dekes of Hazzard win 7-3.

Polk Check Division February 26 Highlights:

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard…8-8 tie

Tsunamis vs Polk’s Heroes…5-2 Tsunamis

Polk Check Division February 12 Highlights:

Wild Dawgs vs Polk’s Heroes….Dawgs goalie Marty Myre was under the weather but did not under perform! He backstopped the Dawgs to victory to be sure in this tight game. The Heroes scored the only goal of the opening period while the Dawgs scored the only goal in the middle period to head into the final period knotted up 1-1 in an interesting tussle. Finally the Dawgs broke free and the Heroes were befallen by a key injury to an offensive cog and fell short. Wild Dawgs win 6-3.

Tsunamis vs Dekes of Hazzard…Al Jolivet played the first game for the Heroes then came into this one simply robbed the Dekes of at least a point. One save was worth the price of admission for the French Palace crowd. Another game that featured two low scoring periods followed by an explosion of goals. 1-0 for the Dekes after one and then 2-1 for the Wave after two. At 5-4 for the Wave in the final minute the Wave scored an empty netter but the Dekes quickly closed to within one before coming agonizingly close in the closing seconds to tying it up. Unsure of the tech difficulties for not getting most of this game Live Streamed for review. Tsunamis win 6-5.

Polk Check Division February 5 Highlights:

Tsunamis vs Wild Dawgs…Marty Myre was back none worse for wear from a groin pull last week. He played well although his team played a picture perfect game in the 1st period for a 3-0 lead. In the 2nd while the Dawgs debated penalty shot prowess, the Wave snuck back into it by scoring the only two goals of the period. In the 3rd it went 4-2 and 4-3…the Wave had chances but could not close the gap. Wild Dawgs win 4-3.

Polk’s Heroes vs Dekes of Hazzard…the Dekes were excited to play but Terry Cleroux was a true hero and was a difference maker. the Heroes had the offence clicking in the 3rd period to pull away after building 2-0 and 4-1 period break leads. Polk’s Heroes win 8-4.

Polk Check Division January 29 Highlights:

Polk’s Heroes vs Tsunamis…with rumours abound once more for a name change for our Heroes, the fan base was in an uproar as they showed their love for Polk’s legacy. As well an OBBHA reporter under-covered some possible dissension on the team itself over the potential of a name change. The game itself took over from this chat in the sitting-room only crowd at the french Palace. A Goalie battle took over the buzz in the seats. Polk’s Heroes took a 2-0 lead in the 1st. The Wave tied it up 2-2 in the 2nd. Save after save at both ends became the theme as Terry Cleroux and Dave Holt put on a show. Check out pic of the Waves Holt in the Tweet on the right side of this page/site. This stayed 2-2 until the last very wild 90 seconds. It featured a missed penalty by the Heroes, a lucky deflection Heroes goal for a 3-2 lead, a penalty shot goal for the Wave to make it 3-3 and finally a beautiful winner for the Wave! Whew!! Thanks for the entertainment boys!!! Tsunamis win 4-3.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Wild Dawgs…this was about goaltending too. In the first the teams ended up 2-2. in the 2nd the Wild Dawgs won the period 4-0 for a 6-2 lead, but Marty Myre in the Dawgs net stole the show and the game from the Dekes as they fired many shots of high quality that were repeatedly denied. A 1-1 3rd gave the Dawgs a solid team win. Wild Dawgs win 7-3.

Polk Check Division January 22 Highlights:

Dekes of Hazzard vs Tsunamis…the Dekes roared out to a 3-0 lead as the Wave came in a little late for the party. In the 2nd the Wave came back to close it to 4-2 and scored the only goal of the 3rd to close to within one goal. The Dekes had so many chances but Big Dave in the Wave net was a big factor keeping his team in it. Dekes of Hazzard win 4-3

Polk’s Heroes vs Wild Dawgs…the Dawgs held 2-1 and 6-3 period break leads. The big story was how many blocked shots the Dawgs had! This kept the Heroes offence off kilter to be sure. Marty in the Dawgs net was very good on this freezing rain night as he froze out any comeback bid. Rumour has it the Polk’s Heroes are fanning the flames for a name change for the French Palace faithful. Wild Dawgs win 7-3.

Polk Check Division January 15 Highlights:

Wild Dawgs vs Tsunamis…as evenly played as it gets. Goaltenders Travis and Marty were on their respective games. The video on the live streaming will tell the story and in the first period there was a great glove grab by Marty that had the fans roaring with approval. The Dawgs were up 1-0 at the first period break. In the 2nd the Wave broke through for 3 goals and played great D in front of a confident Travis Guay for a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. in the final period the teams threw caution to the wind a plethora of goals occurred. The Wave won the 3rd 5-4 for the win. Tsunamis win 8-5.

Dekes of Hazzard vs Polk’s Heroes…it looked like the Heroes were going to win this game in the early stages of the game as they came out flying and looking good. They held a 3-2 lead but could have been up more at the end of the 1st. in the 2nd the Dekes settled down for a 5-4 lead. Then the Dekes slowly took over in the 3rd for a slow death grip on the win. Dekes of Hazzard win 8-5.

For the first game of the Winter Session on Monday, January 8th, rumours were abound that two more teams were in the Wings trying to build and join the division! However the other teams started the first games in earnest!!

Tsunamis vs Polk’s Heroes…the Heroes revamped line-up took only a few shifts to show some impressive chemistry! 2-2 after one period and then the Heroes won the 2nd period 2-0 as well as the 3rd for a big first win! Polk’s Heroes win 6-2.

Wild Dawgs vs Dekes of Hazzard… this was probably the best game the Dekes have played on any given Monday nighter. after a scoreless first period where the goalies mad it clear that this would be their night, the Dekes won the 2nd period 3-2. The well played game continued to be a tight affair, but the Dekes were able to play great ball control to protect their lead for the win. Dekes of Hazzared win 5-3.
